Trombone infused doom, noise, jazz collective Eaters of the Soil return with their third self-titled EP in two years. On this release the band furtherly explores its unique brand of dense, ‘unheimliches’ experimental doom in which they incorporate improv free jazz and noise, while keeping the low end tight, slow and heavy.

The drums and doom bass lay the heavy foundation; guitar, trombone and fretless bass have a free role and improvise their parts, adding unexpected layers and moods.

On two tracks the band is joined by clarinetist Diogo Lopes, adding subtlety, suspense and crime jazz vibes.

Eaters of the Soil was formed during the corona pandemic and lockdown in December 2020, releasing their self-titled debut EP in July 2021 and its follow up in January 2022. Starting out as a studio project EotS grew into a live band.

While being a new band the collective efforts of the band’s members stretch from underground metal (a.o. Devious, Next Waste Dimension, The Howl Ensemble) to noise improv collective Lärmschutz and collabs with artists like Dirk Serries, Mauro Pawlowski (dEUS, Evil Superstars) and Trevor Dunn (Fantômas, John Zorn’s Masada).

The dissonant bleakness of the first track is less weird and more hypnotic than on the second track. That's why I like it a little more. But both songs together make for an extraordinary experience and a journey to the arhythmically beating heart of darkness. mourner
